Toby is in charge

He is a creature of routine. Ever since I got him as a 4 month old puppy, he has hung out in the yard with me. I like being outside. I don’t mind our hot summers, and spend a lot of my down time sitting in the yard. I have a big yard (by California standards), nice trees, and it is a pleasant place with the sound of my pond waterfall. I usually have my morning coffee out here.

We don’t do it as much in the winter. This year, Toby has taken charge. Every morning, he tries to get me outside. He comes up to me, gets my attention, and then runs to his dog door, then back to me until I come outside. He has also resumed an old habit. He attached himself to me pretty much right away as a pup, and he would refuse to eat unless I sat with him during his meal. Over the last week, he ignores his breakfast until I come outside, and then he eats it.

When I go inside to get fresh coffee, he follows me, rubs on my legs, and paces until I go back outside.

Once we go back outside, he chases squirrels and bees and relaxes.

Dogs are the best.

They are the best.

Mine are very good about making me take more walks around our place than I would without them.

When’s the last time you read “White Fang”? I’m reading it again with my daughter right now.

Dogs are the best. We have some similar routines. Morning trip to the yard for rabbit chasing, stick retrieving, potty break, and water. Our older dog won’t go leave the porch unless one of us is out there to watch over him. There’s a mid-morning stick chasing break followed by the morning nap , another potty break around l unch , a mid-afternoon outside break followed by another nap , an evening break for dinner and more stick chasing, and one last potty break before bed.

Dogs are the best.

Ozzy is getting annoyed because I have been going back to work, part time, a few days a week. My wife says he waits by the door for up to an hour after I leave.  But when I get home I get a big, goofy dog smile from him.  I have been trying so hard to get a good picture of it, but he only does it for a second.

They most certainly are.

You and Toby have a symbiotic relationship. Where one goes, so does the other, if not then both parties pine for the other’s return.

Your both good guys who have each others backs.

That’s an awesome thing to have.
